Understanding TAGS

HTML tags actually serve two purposes. First, they recognize logical document parts- that is, major structural components in documents such as headings like (<H1>), numbered lists (<OL>) and paragraphs (<P>). Second, tags in HTML documents also reference other elements- that is, tags can include pointers and links to other documents, images, sound files, video files, multimedia applications etc. The browser rely on the information contained within an HTML document to tell it what to display as well as how to display it.
